The DRAW PROJECT is an ongoing curatorial platform, which focuses on drawing and works on paper in all of its various manifestations. This PROJECT started as a small collective artists, who have been organizing comprehensive group exhibitions that have traveled to museums and arts institutions throughout the US and other parts of the globe.
In 2014, The DRAW PROJECT had its inaugural exhibition at the INSIDE/OUT ART MUSEUM in Beijing, China and it has had a number of exhibitions since then showing in Serbia, Croatia, The Philippines, Israel, Chile and other parts of China. Currently, there are pending exhibitions, which will take place in France, Turkiye, Singapore, Germany, Colombia, Mexico, as well as at other venues in the US. And we are constantly reaching out to other venues with the help of member artists to further broaden the scope and outreach of our mission.
This collective has grown significantly and in 2023. has officially established itself as nonprofit organization, The DRAW PROJECT, LTD, registered through the New York State Department of State.
The concept of DRAW began with the discovery of several sketchbooks that no one knew existed, excavated from the late LeRoy Neiman’s studio after the artist’s passing. The drawings on the pages of these newly-found sketchbooks offered an insightful glimpse into another side of Mr. Neiman’s artistic psyche greatly contrasting his better-known flamboyant and colorful paintings of celebrities and sports figures. Upon a deeper dive into this treasure trove of drawings, another world of gritty and whimsical figures and surrealistic, mythical entities populated these pages.
We, either, bring with us inflight the unframed drawings or works on paper of the artists originating from New York/US safely packed in a portfolio box or rolled in a tube to the venue destination or load the artworks in van and drive the exhibition to more local US venues.
This allows us to:
Keep the cost of shipping artworks to a minimum
Bring an exhibition to smaller venues, where their exhibitions budgets are very modest
Lower the environmental impact that normal traveling exhibitions would have
40 or more artists are invite to participate in the exhibition by the DRAW curators
20 or more artists from the locale of the hosting venue are invited by Guest Curators familiar with their arts community
The curators are encouraged to bring into the exhibition, artists who come from a wide variety of backgrounds and career levels
This brings to each exhibition a unique and diverse chorus of visual voices
There is a merging of all of these participating artists to create an open and divergent dialogue
A theme & concept outlines and guides the overall vision of each exhibition
