Founded in 2014 by artist and educator Tomas Vu, DRAW is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit art collective dedicated to celebrating and elevating the practice of drawing, in its many forms. Through international, large-scale group exhibitions, DRAW brings together some of the most significant voices in contemporary art—including Kiki Smith, William Kentridge, Sarah Sze, Cecily Brown, Kara Walker, Rirkrit Tiravanija, and many others.
Unlike traditional exhibitions, where sketches, studies, and other practices related to drawing are often presented as secondary to “finished” pieces, DRAW places these works and their concepts at the forefront. By doing so, DRAW offers audiences a rare glimpse into the maker’s process—a microcosm of the artist’s creative mind—and highlights drawing as a vital and generative practice in its own right.
Since its founding, DRAW has organized exhibitions at institutions such as the University of the Philippines (Manila), the Museum of Contemporary Art Vojvodina (Novi Sad, Serbia), the Central Academy of Fine Arts (Beijing), Massachusetts College of Art and Design (Boston), Hudson River Museum (New York) and many more. Through this work, DRAW fosters international dialogue, supports artists at all stages of their careers, and expands public understanding of the artistic process.
